Commencement Address at OIT

In Journal by Steve Sliwa

I was selected by Dr. Christopher Maples, OIT President, to be the Commencement Speaker at the Oregon Institute of Technology graduation yesterday. I flew down in the TBM on Friday and toured the campus and attended graduation events. I got to spend some quality time with faculty and department chairs. Then I gave the commencement address on Saturday.

I have long been a fan of OIT from a distance. I met students, parents, and coaches at basketball events. I have hired some graduates and wanted to increase recruiting at OIT. Shortly after making such a point at Insitu, I got the invitation from Dr. Maples. I felt like I had to put my money where my mouth was and accept the invitation.

What was my topic? That is easy to predict:

  • What’s the goal?     Make a Difference
  • What are the strategies for achieving the goal?    Passion – Focus – Balance
