Countdown to Israel – Week 4

In Trips by Nancy Sliwa

Four weeks from today I leave on a 10-day tour of the Holy Land. This is the stack of books Steve got me for Christmas that I have read/am reading in preparation for the trip. To say I’m excited is an understatement.

This trip was arranged about 6 months ago (as my Christmas/Anniversary present.) That is just about the perfect amount of time for me to get the maximum joy from anticipation of a trip. I love reading about it, meditating on it, the minutiae of preparation.

I’ve noticed a key difference in the way I prepare for a trip versus the way Steve prepares me for a trip (as I’m traveling without him.). Most of my focus is on the right clothes, the right travel accoutrements, the right balance of stuff versus light packing,to maximize my in-the-moment enjoyment of the trip. Steve is making sure I have the right camera, the right computing equipment, the right blogging software, to maximize my recording the details of my trip for future enjoyment and sharing. Since he has always been the photojournalist of our previous trips, I’m glad he’s equipping me properly to make sure I can remember this trip for the rest of my life.

Pile of books about Israel.
