After landing in Philadelphia, I had a big panic. When I got to the rental car place I pulled out my man bag to use my iPad for navigation. It wasn’t there. I realized that I must have left the iPad on the flight in the seat pocket in front of me.
I used the rental car shuttle to return to the terminal and found baggage services. They called the gate as the flight was closing the door and asked to check seat 17F. They said they didn’t see the iPad. So we suspected the cleaning crew found it. We called them and no luck.
An hour later I realized that I had the ability to track down the iPad using the MobileMe service. So I activated that search feature. It found my old iPad back in AZ and my iPhone, but no luck on my new iPad2. I kept checking every 30 mintues from my conference. After a couple of hours it was found. The map showed it on the tarmac at Ft. Myers (SW Florida Regional). I sent it a message, but no joy. After about an hour or so, the location signal disappeared.
We later spotted it in Ocean City, MD, then Seaville, NJ, and then the outskirts of Philadelphia. We originally thought the thief was being tricky. Burt we later found out that we were tracking the iPad on the flight home, after it was low enough for a 3G signal.
Once it was back on the tarmac at Philly, I called and got Linda at the US Air Baggage Services office. She agreed to track it down for me. She called about 30 minutes later saying she found it. Hurray!
So my iPad made a trip to Florida and back. Doesn’t it qualify for frequent flier models to be accrued by its owner?
