Steve Sliwa | Honey departed for puppy heaven this morning. I am sure God has reserved swimming pools, frisbees, and treats galore for her. She was a great pet and companion. She touched many lives. Good news was that we had a great Christmas together at my Mom’s and she was properly spoiled up until the very end. |
Shirley Sliwa (Steve’s Mom and Honey’s Official Grandmother) | So very sorry!! Feel privileged that she was here for one last visit. Forgot to tell you in my last message that Cocoa and Rusty were missing Honey, Chandelle, and Casper. Had the towel we used to cover Honey with, on the floor in the laundry room waiting to be washed, and kept finding Cocoa and Rusty laying on it. (Not their usual place for napping.) Just remember, she’s got a buddy now too. Can imagine her at Dad’s feet now, and both enjoying. |
Tabitha Orlando (original owner and sister) | Thank you for letting me know. I’m glad she was there with everyone for Christmas, and I’m happy she was spoiled thoroughly to the end. Of course, there is at least one web page in the future devoted to her, if not two. Thank you for taking care of Honey all these years, and for giving her such a good home and so much love. |
Susan Hill (Steve’s sister) | Thanks for letting me know, so that I can have any extra prayer for her. I will greatly miss her sweet face, and grunts of love. And I’m especially grateful for her friendship to my big brother… I know some special buddies of mine that are meeting her at the gate. |
Paul McDuffee | We’ll all miss her, Boss. She will always be the most amazing dog I ever met! |
Chris Mosher | I’m sorry to learn of this, Steve. I know how much you loved spoiling Honey and showing her off doing tricks. I, for one, will always remember your special performances at the PR (when I was interviewed, the various parties to recognize students, etc.) and my first day on the job at ERAU when the hurricane blew into town. I was staying at the PR and I happened to look out the window that night and saw a flashlight beam dancing off the wind-driven raindrops over the ocean. I couldn’t imagine what it was. So I went outdoors to see. And, there you were playing fetch with Honey. You were throwing a tennis ball down the beach and tracking it with the flashlight so Honey could find it easily. She was a great pet and companion. You have lots of treasured memories I’m sure. And, a lots of great photographs too! Some from this past Christmas together I hope. |
MaryAnn & Dave Hazen (Honorary Grandparents) | Sad news, but not unexpected. As you say, we are sure that she is already getting God’s newspaper for him too. We feel privileged to have been her honorary grandparents and she gave us many wonderful memories. We have never known a dog like her and probably never will again. What a long and wonderful life she had! She touched many lives and provided endless hours of enjoyment to all who came in contact with her. That is a marvelous legacy. We’re glad we got a chance to say farewell. |
Joan McDuffee | I just wanted to let you both know I was deeply saddened to hear about Honey. I know it must be a difficult time for you having lost a wonderful companion. But I’m sure she is in a good place free of pain. |
Marcie Smith (Nancy’s best friend) | Oh Nancy, I’m so sorry about Honey. I know how badly it can hurt and I’m sorry. Honey was a wonderful dog and I hope you and Steve and Chandelle and Casper all spoil each other because you’ll need it. |
Richard Price (Nancy’s brother) | She would walk behind you come through your legs and sit beneath you. |
Steve Nordlund | I am sure Honey is already teaching the other dogs in puppy heaven how to take the leash and walk themselves. She was/is one of a kind. Sorry for the news, but I think having the opportunity to know the schedule for Honey’s departure to puppy heaven was part of the “big scheme” all along. Giving us all a chance to say our good-byes. Hope you both are doing well. I am glad Honey was able to make one last visit to see your Mom and her other Daytona friends. |
Janice Price (Nancy’s sister) | Steven, I’m so sorry about Honey’s death. It helps to know that she was at peace when she went, knowing she was loved. |
David & Michele Sliwa (Steve’s brother and sister-in-law) | So very sorry to hear about your loss! I worry about how Chandelle is going to adjust these next few weeks. I’m happy that you had some true “quality time” with her prior to her passing. |
Brad Schrick | My condolences to you and Nancy, and the others who loved Honey, who was clearly special even in the world of special dogs and other best friends. |
MaryAnn Conte (former pet sitter at ERAU) | I was saddened to the point of tears this afternoon when I pulled up your website and learned of Honey’s passing. I thoroughly enjoyed her company as well as that of Chandelle and Casper every time I had the pleasure of caring for them. Honey’s intelligence as well as her antics are hard to forget. I think of her fondly every time my own dog, Pepper (a Springer Spaniel) does something unique enough to be labeled “Honey-ish”. My thoughts are with you as I’m sure this is a painful time for you. |
Art Roberts | I know how much we all will miss her and those great tricks..she was and always will be a great joy and a true friend…I mourn your loss… |
Louis Lerman | Honey was never a pet. Or if so, you are as much her pet as she is yours; the two of you are more like companions, friends, and family. I say ‘are’ for Honey contributed so much to so many in her unique way — those contributions and the love they inspired continue. |
Leila Adams | So sorry about Honey. I know she was a wonderful part of your lives. Having lost several pets I know the sadness you feel. They bring such unconditional love and devotion in to our lives. Some people never get to experience this so aren’t those of us who have the privilege to enjoy our pets lucky? Honey was really exceptional and sure she is now teaching all the pets in doggy heaven a thing or two! |
Jay Adams | Thanks for letting me know as Leila and I know how much a member of the family Honey really was. She was definitely the smartest dog I ever met, and had a great personality in addition. Thankfully you have Chandelle and the cat. Nevertheless, Honey will be sorely missed and only time and maybe another Golden down the road will help fill the void. |
Jeff Kimpan | I am sorry to hear about Honey. She was a terrific companion and friend to you and I am sure you’re saddened by her loss. I can think of no other pet who has had a better life and truly been part of a family. |
Kevin Kuhn | My prayers go out to all of you. She will be missed by SO MANY people. I loved the opportunities to “dog sit” in the mid-1990s. She was so full of energy! She was truly amazing. |
Abe Harraf | I heard the news. I am deeply saddened as I know how much you loved her. Please give my sympathy to Nancy. |
