Merrie Wood Loses Battle with Cancer

In Friends by Steve Sliwa

We have many fond memories of spending quality time with Merrie Wood.  We met Lyman and Merrie while at Embry-Riddle.  Their son attended ERAU just before I arrived and has gone on to a great career in the USAF.  Merrie and Lyman were always thankful and appreciative of the role ERAU played and were avid parent supporters with their time and philanthropy.

We spent time with Lyman and Merrie during our year in Connecticut and the we continued to get together in the recent years.  They visited us at our house in White Salmon and we visited with them at their rental house in Saratoga Springs (for the races) and at Hampden.

Merrie had many special qualities and Nancy and her particularly liked to past the time catching up with life’s many details whenever we got together.  We all had been hopeful that she was going to beat her difficulties with cancer but ultimately it re-surfaced and claimed her in rapid fashion not long after she was again playing tennis.

We will miss her.
